Horse Show Summer Schedule 2008 
Entry Fees : Classes 1 to 28 - £4.   Clear Round - £1.   Novelty Classes - £2 (rosettes to all)
Our prices have not changed in over five years!

All entries on the day. Buy the number of tickets you require for main classes, clear round or novelty events from the show secretary.  We no longer make up class sheets in advance and therefore do not know how many entries there will be in each class.   Tickets must be handed in to stewards as you enter the ring, so please ensure you arrive promptly when your class is about to start.

No refunds on tickets, as some may be discounted, 
but you can pass tickets to friends or use them at future shows.  

Ring 1 - SHOW JUMPING
Horses/ponies must be 4 yrs or over 

LOW CLEAR ROUND 9.30am
Rosettes to all clears

 1. Beginner’s S.J.  10.30am
Very low jumps. Horse/pony never placed 1st - 3rd  in any SJ event. One round, slow bogey time.  Everyone with a clear will be placed. Slow trot bogey time. No horse or rider in this class may enter any other SJ class except Class 2.

2.   The Ryder Cup
Jumps 2' 3", cup to winner. 
In memory of Phil Ryder, a much loved member of the Shield Show team who always encouraged young riders to do their best.  This class is designed to give novice and experienced riders an equal chance. The numbers of those riding clear will be drawn to decide the winners.     All entry fees this year will go to the NSPCC. 

CLEAR ROUND - 2’3"
 for one hour approx.  

Not before 1pm

3. Intermediate SJ
2'6" approx.  If you jump a clear, wait for the whistle and jump again, to avoid the need to come back for a jump off
 

4. Power and Speed
Short 2'6" scurry course on time, followed by one jump max 3'3" and one spread, not timed.  

Not before 2pm

5. CHASE ME CHARLIE 
May be split if sufficient entries

If you wish to enter classes which are likely to clash, please inform ring stewards who will make every effort to ensure you can take part in every class you wish to enter.

Ring 2 – RIDDEN SHOWING 
Horses/ponies must be 4 yrs or over

6. Best Turnout 9.30am  

7. Best Rider Junior
13 yrs & under 

8. Best Rider Senior
14 years and over   

Not before 11.00 am

9.   Best Lead Rein Pony 
13hh and under, child rider on lead

10.   Best Novice Ride
Horses/ponies suitable for a  beginner, off lead, though a helper may walk with novice riders to give confidence.  Beware the crocodile!  May be split if sufficient entries. Walk / trot only except in individual shows.

11.  Riding Horse/Pony
No jumping. Judged on confirmation, paces and way of going.  

     JUDGE’S LUNCH BREAK 1pm approx

 Not before 1.30pm 

12. RC Horse/PC Pony
Expected to jump

13. Novice Working Hunter Marathon
Judged on style and performance over natural low fences.  Follow the green numbers – plan at Secretary’s tent. For genuine novices only please. Horses/ponies entering this class may not enter class 14.
14.  Working Hunter Marathon
Judged on style and performance over natural  fences, max 2'6".  Follow the red  numbers – plan at Secretary’s tent. 
 
In Classes 13 and 14, the judge will call back short listed entrants only into the ring, after the jumping round.  

Not before 3pm 
15.  Fun Cross Country Event
Follow the red numbers - bogey time based on a collected canter.  May be split horses/ponies if sufficient entries.

Ring 3 - IN HAND
No colts or stallions except well behaved yearlings. No foals, please. 

16.  Best Turnout  9.30am

17.  Best Condition

18.  Veterans 15 years +

19.  Youngstock  yearling - 3yrs

20. Mountain and Moorland Need not be registered - may be split

21.  Driving Types
Middle/heavy weights 
- cobs, vanners and traditionals (unplaited)

22.  Riding Types
Hacks, riding horses, hunters, light cobs and ponies 

23. BEST COLOURED Skewbalds, piebalds, spotted, appaloosa. Special rosette to highest placed British Skewbald & Piebald Assoc. member with membership card
